Resorts and Housing Developments

Nursery Solutions, Inc. provides landscaping plants to large, up-scale resorts and housing developments on the Big Island of Hawaii. There is a worldwide trend to 'go native' in landscaping design. Native plants are naturally drought and disease resistant. They are easier to care for than there exotic counterparts. For this reason we have decided to lend our expertise in native Hawaiian ground covers, shrubs, and trees to the landscaping industry.

In 2005, NSI was approached to work on utilizing native dry land species for landscaping near an existing housing development. This was a new challenge, as NSI had previously been focused entirely on restoration in remote areas. Landscaping needed to be more visually appealing and also provide good value to the landowner in the long term. Through the use of species that are easily propagated, together with multi-species plantings, NSI was able to provide a turnkey solution for landscaping with familiar dry land species. This not only provided the immediate, environmental benefit of using species native to the area, but also resulted in reduced water consumption and landscape maintenance costs in the long term.
